“In our effort to redress the injuries inflicted on us we came to appreciate how undeveloped this area of the law is, and how victims of domain theft face an unmarked and totally uphill battle to get a remedy. Today’s sentencing helps to define a path for other victims and law enforcers to follow, and reinforces the likelihood that the theft of a domain can and will be prosecuted.” (July 22, 2011; Sentencing of Goncalves to 5 years in prison for stealing domain name)

Domain Thieves Replace Content of WRTA Website with Content of Their Own Choosing (June 2009)

On or around June 19, 2009.....the thieves who stole the domain name of World Religious Travel Association (ReligiousTravelAssociation.com) replaced the stolen website with content of their own choosing.

This blog post provides a summary look at and images of WRTA's stolen domain name and website as of June 20-21, 2009.

In my following posts, I will blog specifically about each webpage one by one - which will include discussing in greater detail the chosen/inserted content of each webpage by the domain thieves.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR?

When the domain thieves replaced the stolen WRTA website with content of their own choosing, they created the following 5 webpages:
+ Hompage
+ About (Us)
+ Publications
+ Media
+ Contact

With above in mind, you can view all 5 webpages in images below. Here are a few simple things to point out:

1) As you'll see in Image #1 below, the screen shot shows the Homepage of WRTA's domain ReligiousTravelAssociation.com as seen on June 20-21, 2009.

2) Notice how the full name of "World Religious Travel Association" has been removed from all webpages including from the Copyright (at bottom of webpages).

3) And speaking of Copyrights, notice how the domain thieves did not place the Copyright into the name of any organization, entity, and/or individual - not even their own(s). Such an action is typical of a stolen, fraudulent, and/or counterfeit website.

List of WRTA Email Accounts and Email Addresses Stolen by Domain Thieves

When the thieves stole WRTA's domain name of ReligiousTravelAssociation.com, the domain thieves also committed theft of the domain's corresponding WRTA email accounts, email addresses and email communications.

Then on or around June 19, 2009.....the domain thieves permanently stopped the sending and/or receiving of all emails associated with domain ReligiousTravelAssociation.com to authorized WRTA personnel and contracted staff. In other words, authorized WRTA personnel/staff could no longer access, receive and/or send emails with their respective company email addresses or accounts associated with ReligiousTravelAssociation.com.

Together with the above action on or around June 19, 2009.....the domain thieves then redirected/rerouted all emails and email communications associated with ReligiousTravelAssociation.com to themselves. As such, only the domain thieves from that point forward could access, send and/or receive email communications associated with or via the domain and email accounts of ReligiousTravelAssociation.com.

WHAT TO KNOW?

Below is a list of WRTA email accounts, email addresses and email communications stolen by the domain thieves:

Intercepted Emails in Final 60 Days (Apr-Jun 2009) Leading Up to Thieves Permanently Barring Email Delivery To and From WRTA

The dates of and around June 19 (2009) are exceptionally significant. It was at this time the domain thieves performed the following illicit actions:

1) Stopped delivery of all e-mails/e-communications associated with the domain ReligiousTravelAssociation.com to/from authorized WRTA personnel, staff and contractors.

2) Removed all content on domain/website of ReligiousTravelAssociation.com and replaced it with content of domain thieves' own choosing including "Contact Us" webpage and information.

3) All references to "World Religious Travel Association" and "WRTA" were completely removed on the domain/website ReligiousTravelAssociation.com.

This blog post is focused on item #1 above (the upcoming blog posts will be focused on items #2 and #3).

And as referenced elsewhere, once domain thieves in 2008 gained "registrant" ownership (as well as "Administrative and Technical" control) of the domain ReligiousTravelAssociation.com, this allowed domain thieves full and unfettered access to email accounts and email communications associated with this same domain name - such as those found in images below.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR?
The two screens shots below show sample emails sent (between late April-early June 2009) to my personal WRTA email account/address of kwright@religioustravelassociation.com as president of the World Religious Travel Association.

As I became aware during Spring 2009 that domain thieves would possibly and illicitly stop all emails from being sent by and/or delivered to me (i.e. kwright@religioustravelassociation.com), as well as by and/or to other authorized WRTA personnel/contracted staff (i.e. info@religioustravelassociation.com), I utilized the "print screen" function on my computer to take the 2 screen shots photos below.

Less than 30 days from taking screen shots below, the domain thieves did subsequently permanently and illicitly stop all emails associated with domain ReligiousTravelAssociation.com from being sent by and/or delivered to me and other authorized WRTA personnel/staff.

IMAGE #1
This is a screen shot of emails being received by me in late April-early May 2009. You can verify this by looking at dates on right-hand side of screen. You can also verify this is my personal WRTA email address by looking in upper-right hand corner (you'll see my email address of kwright@religioustravelassociation.com)

EMAILS REGARDING AUTHORIZE.NET AND FINANCIAL/PAYMENT INFORMATION
1) Now look for the subject title/phrase (in middle of screen shot) where it says "Merchant Email Receipt". Once you locate this, then look left for the phrase "Authorize.net Auto-Receipt".

2) The two emails containing above information/phrases were sent to me via our online payment service provider (Authorize.net). These two emails reflect that a membership financial purchase had just taken place online via WRTA's stolen website of ReligiousTravelAssociation.com.

3) There are so many significant things to say about these two above emails from Authorize.net in regards to theft of WRTA's domain and emails by the domain thieves. Here are just a few key things to point out:
+ These 2 emails show a financial transaction just took place online via stolen website.
+ The financial/payment transaction information was sent to my email address which domain thieves had full access to and control over.
+ The domain thieves had illicit access to and control over WRTA's online financial/payment system where these financial transactions took place (I blogged previously on this subject).
+ Domain thieves had illicit access to financial and payment information of WRTA customers, individuals, etc.

EMAILS REGARDING MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS & PROPRIETARY INFORMATION
1) Now look for emails with subject titles of "New Membership Application - CNR" and "New Associate Application - CNR"
2) These emails contain the personal and private information of companies and individuals who registered for Membership with the World Religious Travel Association (WRTA) via the online membership registration system at ReligiousTravelAssociation.com.
3) The domain thieves had full control over and unfettered access to this proprietary and private information of WRTA clients/members.

IMAGE #2
This is a screen shot of emails being received by me from approx. May 20 through first week of June 2009. You can verify this by looking at dates on right-hand side of screen. You can also verify this is my personal WRTA email address by looking in upper-right hand corner (you'll see my email address of kwright@religioustravelassociation.com)

EMAILS REGARDING MEDIA INTERVIEWS
1) As you'll see in this screen shot, I have several emails sent to me regarding media interviews including one with the Wall Street Journal. What's significant about this? The e-mails/e-communications from major media outlets/personnel such as the Wall St. Journal were being illicitly compromised by the domain thieves.

2) In addition, these emails also show that once the domain thieves permanently stopped delivery of WRTA emails to myself and other authorized WRTA personnel around June 19 (2009) - from that point forward, WRTA lost these type of media interviews and opportunities (as only the domain thieves had access to and received these intercepted emails).

EMAILS REGARDING SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS
1) Now look for the subject title phrases that contain "speaking engagement" and "seminar". These emails were in regards to WRTA speaking engagements. Among other things, these emails show the lost opportunities of speaking engagements subsequent to June 19 (2009) - the approx. date upon which the domain thieves no longer allowed emails associated with the stolen domain name (ReligiousTravelAssociation.com) to be sent to/from myself and other authorized WRTA personnel/staff.

EMAILS FROM WRTA MEMBERS
1) As for the email with the subject title "Reno", this was an email sent personally to me from one of WRTA's members. Again, this is just another example of the type of emails sent to me (as president of WRTA) that were being accessed, controlled, and intercepted by the domain thieves......as well as the type of emails I would no longer receive and/or have access to subsequent to June 19 (2009) and onward.

Final 60 Days of Screen Shots (ReligiousTravelAssociation.com) Before Domain Thieves Replaced Website with Content of Their Own Choosing

WHAT TO LOOK FOR?

In images below you will see some of the last website/screen shots of ReligiousTravelAssociation.com on record in final 60 days (April/May 2009) leading up to the thieves replacing this domain with content of their own choosing (June 2009).

And as already stated many times in this blog, authorized WRTA personnel/staff did not have access to these webpages during the final 60 days, as the domain thieves had already barred them access to the company's website/domain (ReligiousTravelAssociation.com) dating back to early-mid January 2009.

Confusion Reigns: WRTA domain vs. WRTA domain

As discussed and shown in my June 23 blog, due to theft of WRTA's domain name and website of ReligiousTravelAssociation.com, WRTA had to subsequently invest in and re-debut a NEW domain name and website (WRTAReligiousTravel.com).

When WRTA debuted its new domain/website on April 2 (2009), this meant there were now the following two separate "WRTA domain names/websites" on the Internet representing the company:

1) RELIGIOUSTRAVELASSOCIATION.COM
* This was WRTA's original company domain which was initially stolen by domain thieves in 2008 and permanently stolen (and cybersquatted) in Jan 2009.
* This is the domain name which also contained WRTA's corresponding personnel/staff email addresses and email communications from the company's initial public launch (Jan 2007) and onward.

2) WRTARELIGIOUSTRAVEL.COM
* This was the new domain name and website that WRTA launched on April 2, 2009.
* The debut of this new domain name and website by WRTA was in response to its original domain name/website (ReligiousTravelAssociation.com) being stolen and WRTA personnel/staff not having any access to the domain, website or domain files from Jan 2009 and onward.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR?

Images #1 and #2
These are "side-by-side" images of WRTA's two websites as seen in April/May of 2009. As you can see and imagine, the confusion was great among the public regarding "which website represented WRTA" or whether they both did.

Notice also how the stolen domain name/website contains very out-of-date information (at that time) such as referencing the 2008 Expo while WRTA's new domain name/website properly references the 2009 Expo. Again, the difference is due to the domain thieves barring WRTA personnel/staff from being able to access its original company domain (ReligiousTravelAssociation.com) and making any changes to this website.

Yet also notice how the paragraph describing WRTA on both websites is virtually the same. Imagine how confused you would be as the public or even as a paying member when you come across both websites. And keep in mind the public and members didn't know one of these websites was stolen and in the hands/control of thieves.

WRTA's Filing of 2nd Trademark (March 2009) - Report from United States Patent and Trademark Office

Please see my previous blog post regarding WRTA's original trademark filing in 2007 through Feb 2009.

In March 2009, WRTA hired one of the most respected and largest law firms in the Rocky Mountain West (Holland & Hart) to begin its second trademark filing. This latter trademark filing was one of WRTA's responses to the growing and accelerating thefts occuring against the company.

The following report and information is from the website of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (http://tarr.uspto.gov/).

Thank you for your request. Here are the latest results from the TARR web server.

WRTA's Original Trademark Filing (2007-2009): Report from United States Patent & Trademark Office

As I previously blogged, WRTA began its original trademark filing process in early 2007 - in conjunction with the official public launch of company.

WRTA continued this trademark process from 2007 into early 2009, which included paying all related legal and trademark fees. However, due to the accelerating and "head-spinning array" of theft of WRTA property/assets and its related impact on the company by January 2009, WRTA stopped its original trademark filing/process in February 2009 and immediately began a new trademark filing process the next month (March 2009).

WHAT TO KNOW?

Below are official documents from the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) regarding WRTA's original 2007 trademark filing. You too can pull the same report/information (or that of another company/trademark filing) by going to USPTO's official website address http://tarr.uspto.gov/. Here is the WRTA report/info reprinted directly from the USPTO:

Due to Theft of Domain (ReligiousTravelAssociation.com), WRTA Re-invests in New Domain Name, Website and Email Addresses

Due to theft of WRTA's company domain (ReligiousTravelAssociation.com), the World Religious Travel Association had to invest thousands of dollars more in a new domain name and website.

Keep in mind that WRTA had already financially invested thousands of dollars in its original company domain name and website ReligiousTravelAssociation.com (which is one of the primary reasons why the domain thieves wanted and stole it).

As domain thieves cybersquatted the domains WorldReligiousTravelAssociation, ReligiousTravelAssociation and ReligiousTravelAssn - WRTA had to look elsewhere for new domain name possibilities. WRTA personnel created and found an available new domain that would fit well with the company's name and established branding, yet a domain which had not yet been cybersquatted.

The new domain of the World Religious Travel Association became http://www.wrtareligioustravel.com/

On April 2, 2009, WRTA publicly and officially announced the launch of its new company domain name, website and email addresses. This announcement came more than 8 months subsequent to initial theft of ReligiousTravelAssociation.com and approx. 3 months subsequent to permanent theft of the domain name.

In its public announcement, WRTA did not reference the theft of its company domain ReligiousTravelAssociation.com.

Email Theft www.ReligiousTravelAssociation.com
Cybersquatting www.ReligiousTravelAssociation.com

Theft of WRTA Prospect Database. Violations of WRTA Domain Names, Email Communications, Proprietary Client Information, etc. (Screen Shots: March 2009)

Theft of WRTA’s prospect database (via Constant Contact) took place in early-mid January 2009, roughly same timeframe as when following also took place:
1) Permanent theft of WRTA’s company website/domain (authorized WRTA personnel and staff could no longer access company website of ReligiousTravelAssociation.com).
2) 16 WRTA-related domain names were cybersquatted.

Theft of WRTA’s prospect database had immediate consequences for all involved.  Those who committed theft of WRTA’s prospect database began taking immediate illicit and/or illegal action and use of the database which included but not limited to the following:
·         Barred authorized WRTA personnel/contracted staff from accessing the company’s own prospect database and/or communicating with individuals within it.
·         Database thieves began correspondence with individuals listed in WRTA's proprietary database.
·         Database thieves corresponded w/the individuals in database by utilizing WRTA’s email address(es) associated with ReligiousTravelAssociation.com.
·         Database thieves removed all references to World Religious Travel Association in  subsequent email communications.
·         Database thieves replaced WRTA contact information with contact information of their own choosing – including replacing mailing address with a California mailing address of their own choosing.
·         Database thieves provided a falsified “image/presence” acting as alleged authorized representatives/personnel of WRTA’s Faith Tourism Kit.
·         Database thieves had WRTA’s prospect database in their possession to engage in any other non-WRTA related communications.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR?

IMAGE #1
This is an image of WRTA’s website/domain FAITHTOURISMKIT.COM, which was hosted and promoted by WRTA. As this image shows, if someone wanted to receive the complimentary Faith Tourism Kit created and provided by WRTA, they would enter their respective email address here and press enter. Take note also of the verbiage right below the sign-up box which states “Privacy by Safesubscribe. For email marketing you can trust” (this is the verbiage of Constant Contact, the email marketing system utilized by WRTA).

IMAGE #2
After performing the action mentioned above (in Image #1), the individual would then enter their proprietary contact name and information.  In this case, you’ll see the individual signing up is “Brian” and his email address ends in ….1975@yahoo.com. Also take note at lower-left of webpage regarding “Email Privacy Policy” (and related link).

IMAGE #3
After the individual enters their personal/proprietary contact information and clicks “Save Profile Changes” (see Image #2 above), the individual then receives this “Thank You” communication confirming their subscription to selected mailing lists.

IMAGE #4
Subsequent to receiving above “Thank You” communication, the individual then receives its first full email from WRTA in response to their signing up to receive WRTA’s Faith Tourism Kit. Things to look for in this image:
·         Email received by Brian (same individual who registered above) on March 20, 2009, at 4:49pm.
·         The email sender is listed/featured as “World Religious Travel Association” with sender’s email address related to the domain of ReligiousTravelAssociation.com
·         The letter portion of email features following items:
o   1-800 phone number for WRTA
o   References to visit website ReligiousTravelAssociation.com
o   The official icon of WRTA is featured in full color
o   Letter is signed by “The World Religious Travel Association Team”
·         At very bottom-center section of image and below the letter (in middle of email)…….look for the full and official company mailing address of WRTA. Here’s what you’ll see/find:
World Religious Travel Association | 8156-E. South Wadsworth Blvd. #338 | Littleton | CO | 80128

IMAGE #5
Following up to previous email, the individual (Brian with "1975 Yahoo.com") now receives a NEW follow-up email regarding the Faith Tourism Kit. Here are the new/different/changed items to look for in this email version versus the original email received (see Image #4 above)
·         All references to “World Religious Travel Association” have been completely removed.
·         All icons/images related to “World Religious Travel Association” have been completely removed.
·         The email sender is no longer listed/featured as “World Religious Travel Association” but rather now uses the replaced and generic name of “Faith Tourism Kit” – yet still utilizes an email address associated with domain of ReligiousTravelAssociation.com
·         The phrase “Faith Tourism Kit” is used generically throughout the email as opposed to any specific references to World Religious Travel Association
·         The phone # for WRTA has been completed removed from email address.
·         The following changes have been made to the mailing address (at center-bottom of email)
o   The name of “World Religious Travel Association” is replaced with generic name/phrase of “Faith Tourism Kit”
o   The entire official company Colorado mailing address for WRTA has been removed and replaced with a new California-based mailing address of the prospect thieves' choosing.

IMAGE #6
This image contains an email (Feb 2010) sent approximately one year after above email communications (March 2009). Here are things to look for, along with special notes:
* This email shows how the prospect database thieves remained in control of WRTA's stolen Constant Contact account and database for at least one year (or longer) following their initial theft of the database.
* This email shows how the prospect database thieves continued to communicate into the Year 2010 with individuals listed in the stolen database (database initially stolen in January 2009).
* This email shows how all the illicit and/or illegal actions initially taken by the database thieves in Image #5 (see above) continued to be carried out and remain as such into 2010. Just to recap, as this Feb 2010 email image shows, this includes the following:
·         All references to “World Religious Travel Association” still remain completely removed.
·         All icons/images related to “World Religious Travel Association” still completely removed.
·         The email sender still not listed/featured as “World Religious Travel Association” but rather still instead only uses the replaced and generic name of “Faith Tourism Kit” – yet still utilizes an email address associated with domain of ReligiousTravelAssociation.com
·         The phrase “Faith Tourism Kit” is still used generically throughout the email as opposed to any specific references to World Religious Travel Association
·         The phone # for WRTA still remains completed removed from email address.

The final 4 images featured below are screen shots of Constant Contact's policies, terms of use, agreements, etc. In short, as you review these, you'll see how many of these policies, terms, and agreement clauses were violated and breached by those who committed theft of WRTA's prospect database and utilized Contact Contact to illicitly communicate with the individuals/organizations contained within WRTA's propriety database.

Website Statistics/Traffic for ReligiousTravelAssociation.com (Jan 2008-Feb 2009)

WRTA invested heavily in ReligiousTravelAssociation.com in many different ways - branding, marketing, selling, promoting, publicizing, etc. All of this required and utilized an extraordinary amount of WRTA resources including financial, personnel and time.

Due to WRTA's investments in its above company website, the domain ReligiousTravelAssociation.com became a top Google search ranking/result especially with key terms such as "religious travel".

WHAT TO LOOK FOR?

Below are statistical reports for WRTA's company domain ReligiousTravelAssociation.com dating from January 2008 through February 2009. These statistics were generated from the original domain files. Note: In the last image, I only included the first 11 items, as the entire list was extremely lengthy.

(Jan-March 2009) Website Screen Shots After Domain Thieves Barred WRTA Personnel/Staff from Accessing Company Website

You'll notice I often use in my blog the phrases:
1) "initial theft" of WRTA's domain name
2) "permanent theft" of WRTA's domain name

By "initial theft" I'm referring to the illicit transfer of the "registrant" (and admin/technical contacts) of WRTA's domain name (ReligiousTravelAssociation.com) into a company of the domain thieves' choosing. This act took place in the year 2008.

By "permanent theft" I'm referring to the act whereby the domain thieves permanently barred authorized WRTA company personnel/contracted staff from accessing its own company website/domain (and related domain files) of ReligiousTravelAssociation.com. This illicit act took place in January 2009 - same month and essentially same timeframe in which the domain thieves cybersquatted WRTA-related domain names (approx. Jan 7-15, 2009).

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN IMAGES BELOW?

Images #1-4
* These are screen shots of WRTA's company domain name in late January 2009.
* Hence, these screen shots are subsequent to domain thieves barring access to ReligiousTravelAssociation.com by authorized WRTA personnel/contracted staff.
* Thus WRTA personnel/contracted staff at this point had no ability to add, delete, change, modify, upload, and/or access the content on the domain ReligiousTravelAssociation.com.

Images #5-13
* These are screen shots of WRTA's company domain in March 2009.
* Hence, these screen shots are the 3rd month in which WRTA personnel/contracted staff had no ability to add, delete, change, modify, upload, and/or access the content on the domain ReligiousTravelAssociation.com.

All Images Below #1-13
As you go through each image below, look for and keep in mind such things as the following:
* You'll notice a lot of outdated content references especially regarding the Year 2008 (even though the images are 2009 screen shots). For example, you'll see the event "World Religious Travel Expo 2008" being promoted. Plus you'll see the Copyright as "2008." As mentioned above, since WRTA personnel was unable to access the website and change any content beginning in January 2009 and onward - the content on the website thereby became "static and old" - since it was all content posted by WRTA personnel and contracted staff (including contracted IT/computer personnel) prior to the permanent theft of the domain name/website.
* Webpages whereby individuals completed online forms by inserting their personal/business contact info, etc. (Proprietary information; Trade secret info; etc.).
* Webpages that were password protected (i.e. for paying WRTA members, etc.)
* Webpages that featured/promoted Members and provided other related membership benefits (With no access to company website, WRTA was unable to fulfill membership benefits/agreements such as these)
* Webpages that featured WRTA contact information
* Webpages featuring the online payment registration form (see my previous blog post about this from a few days ago)
* Webpages with Copyright WRTA text info (look at bottom of webpages)
* Webpages featuring the phrase "Designed by Web Media World" (WRTA paid and financed Web Media World to develop its company website/domain of ReligiousTravelAssociation.com)
